Dissertation consideration 1

For the third and final year of the BA (hons) graphic design course, we are required to construct a lengthy research document on a subject of our choice. The report must be an in-depth research assignment, exploring a specific subject or question centred around a particular topic.

For my first consideration, I have chosen the following subject:

What cognitive theories can explain the effectiveness of pictorial communication?

I think it's interesting how the human brain can recall and remember imagery better than text. In graphic design this is especially relevant when creating word-heavy designs and I want to explore the evidence surrounding the cognitive theories to explain why the human brain seeks out information in the most efficient way possible.
